An Obituary of Twenty Sixteen (About Bloody Time)

Ever felt that 2016 was a crap year? That what I felt.
And to prove this, here's my look on 2016, complete with those who no longer with us.
If you don't know any of those, look it up.
I'm listening to Jools Hollands' Hootenanny now, and I'll see you next year. (Geddit?)

Advent 2016.10: Read-Along Songs No.2

And now, another Read-Along song.
This time, it's a Winter Wonder during some Christmas shopping!

Thursday, 8 December 2016

Advent 2016.09: Winter Dress-Up

Just found a catalogue, containing some of the dresses available at Barks & Spinster. The cover features "Jen" Bunnzie and Hot Dog (Andrew Morrice) wearing tree dresses (originally unveiled five years ago yesterday - http://granitoons.deviantart.com/art/Xmas-tree-dress-272858504), much to Nancius Bunnzie's thoughts.

Oh, and by the way, WestQuay Southampton will be opening the first wave of restaurants in its Watermark development, hopefully today.

Advent 2016.08: The Holiday Programme

Today's comic is notable for not only paying tribute to Cliff Michelmore and BBC's Holiday Programme, but also it's also notable for one of the backgrounds.
This was originally done in 1934 by Erich Shenck, and it was done for a Betty Boop cartoon, "Red Hot Mamma".
I found the image in "The Fleischer Story" by Leslie Carbaga, and I thought I could put this on, just to experiment the use of characters on different backgrounds (by using GIMP). So, no infringment intended. Only a tribute.

Advent 2016.07: Postman Elf

This informative comic pays tribute to the late Ken Barrie, who narrated the original Postman Pat and sang a song about a Christmas pudding. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laasIExxuao

Advent 2016.06: Not Warm Enough...

And now, we have to take a look at the special offer of a hand warmer, which is like some foolish school prank, but with a difference (for business). Poor pal...

Advent 2016.05: Wrapped Off!

In today's comic, we see how mothers, like her, often ignore the menacing task of wrapping a present, much to the confusion of the father.

Advent 2016.04: Root Beers #171

Today, we're in time to witness the newest art exhibition curated by Jonathan Philgrim on the games and toys that happened during the Christmas shopping seasons past and present, and invited Dennie Bunnzie to open the exhibition and have a conservation with him. Well, those were what I heard.

Advent 2016.03: Read-Along Songs

And now, the first read-along song of the advent calendar includes problems with traffic and busy shops during the Christmas shopping season.

Advent 2016.02: What a Silly Tweet I was...

Today, we find a sheep at the end of the queue for whatever trend it is.
What is she going to do with her phone?
And any idea why she's wearing an Aids ribbon? Read on and find out...

Advent 2016.01: The Lights is On!

Well, it's this time of year, again! That means an advent calendar must be required! So, here it is, the first day in its glory.

ROOT BEERS #170: Autumn/Fall Shorts

In this little collection of shorts, we find out why the trade affects The Farmies, why it is Happy Hour in a literal way, and what does that joker want with a jersey cow, anyway?

NOTE:
To be honest, folks. After two years, two months, seven days, seventeen hours and thirty-six minutes of neglect, this comic is finally finished and released to the public. Apologies (always) for the delays, folks.

The 'The Dissertation is Over' Comic (I'm Back)

Well, after submitting my dissertation in (25 hours before the deadline), I'm back and so is Root Beers.
So, get ready for a mega load of humour galore and stuff, once I recovered from researching and typing stuff up.

So, be perpared and stay tuned! Thank you.

ROOT BEERS #163: Che is for Kittens

An unknown sort-of tribute to the telenovelas, using text generators, gags and a cliche to Chevy Chase's impression of Gerald Ford. So, top that!

Saturday, 1 October 2016

ROOT BEERS #162: I’m Alright, Togs.

In this comic, we celebrate the 45th anniversary of Walt Disney World, Florida, the 34th anniversary of the Epcot Center, the 24th anniversary of Cartoon Network U.S., and the 55th anniversary of the The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Oh, and making fun of importances in public life.

ROOT BEERS #161: The Power of Trix

Just when you think that confronting a magician is more than enough...

Nick Bunnzie and Nancius Bunnzie are to dine in the cabaret when being entertained by a magician so crazy, her name was double-checked for reasons by the Hasbro legal team. (Worst luck.)
To get the idea of Nancius Bunnzie's story, check out "Root Beers No.142: The Magic of Con"

ROOT BEERS #160: A Gay Start

Well, here we are.
Another start to a new season of mirth, not misery.

And in this issue, Ally Bobcat ensures a 'gay' start to a season, by trying to be one.
(I still say he's bisexual, concerning how he loves Carol Woole).

Newsflush 10/07/2016

Hello, there.

Well, I've just returned from my week's holiday up in Penrith, Cumbria. Despite the some of the poor weather up there, I've enjoyed some of the attractions. If you like Lego, then Rheged, a popular visitors' centre near Penrith, has got a special Lego exhibition called 'Bricks in Time' (see this link, http://www.rheged.com/bricks-time-hands-history-lego, for more details).

Anyway, if you're probably be wondering, "Hold on, Al. I cannot see any regular Root Beers comics on Saturday. Can you explain to me and my boys, what's in Celestia's mane is going on?" And I replied, "Sergeant Poodle, of course I will explain."

Now, the regular Saturday comics won't be on, on a regular basis, until 17th September 2016.

Until then, the Root Beers Summer Special will be coming up from 1st August 2016, all the way until 17th August 2016, with just one comic a day. Meanwhile, during the hiatus, Midweek Root Beers is still going on Wednesdays on deviantART and Twitter.

Until then, salute and power to the blacks!

Root Beers #159: Paws that Finale!

And here we are! The last in the current series of Root Beers, and what a couple of days it has been, here in Britain.
Mostly because 51% of us have voted for Britain to leave the European Union. (I'm not one of them as I voted Remain.)
Anyway, this comic was done as soon as possible, and so here it is. Enjoy!

Root Beers #158: Off the Wall Street

Hello. We're just getting to the end of the season. So, here's the ending to a running gag in this series, that features a typical ad man with his love for coffee. So, yeah. Kind of weird, innit.
The Cipher code, which was used in the masthead, was used in the first seven episodes of “Gravity Falls”, created by Alex Hirsch, which was born on this day in 1985.

Root Beers #157: This Comic Ain’t Fair

YOU HAVE 1 NEW MESSAGE FROM ROOT BEERS:

Hi. This is Al Welch, speaking. At the time you're reading this comic and its description, then I'm probably in Limerick, Ireland, where I'll be taking part in a tag rugby tournament with the Hampshire Hurricanes tag rugby team.

In this comic, Ally Bobcat and Carol Woole are worried about webcomics not being on time, and the result is really too weird to understand.

Anyway, this comic is dated for the blog, the website, and DeviantART (Core Membership). I'll put this up on FurAffinty and Tumblr when I get back on Sunday evening. Oh, and by the way, the reason why the masthead mentions House and QI is that on this day, Hugh Laurie (Stephen Fry's comedy partner) was born in 1959. Have a good day, bas--

MESSAGE ENDED FOR TOO MUCH INFORMATION

Root Beers #156: A Flaming Good Holiday

In this week's comic, a some-kind-of goth, wearing a red sleeveless coat for no reason, tell us the dangers of a holiday for an unexplained reason, whatsoever.

Also, this may explain the masthead, 'As a publicity stunt, the express train called the Transcontinental Express arrived in San Francisco, California, via the First Transcontinental Railroad on 4 June 1876, only 83 hours and 39 minutes after having left New York City. The feat was reported widely in US newspapers.'

Root Beers #155: Summer Short Shorts

In this week's comic of mirth not misery, there was to be a celebration of the pre-founding of Amnesty International.
But then, the 2016 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy season begins today, and the first part were scrambled. Honestly, why do documentaries has to change the subject?
Also, bowties could be smart in the future. Just saying.

Newsflush 25/05/2016

Hello, everyone. Me again.
As everyone knows, this is turning out to be a poor year, so far. The main reason is that some of the deaths that affected the world. Recently, Alan Young (Mister Ed, DuckTales) is gone and so is Burt Kuowk (The Pink Panther series), as well. Also, there are other things, like the attacks in Brussels and the junior doctors' strike, as well. But, there are positive things this year. Recently, the Co-operative Group bought back their original cloverleaf logo from 1968 and it's on not only the branded food and drinks but also the bags for life, receipts, and promotional stuff, as well.
Anyway, back to me. I have recently finished a Critical Discourse essay, concerning Ludwig Bemelmans and his Madeline book series, and prepared a Dissertation proposal, concern the status of the funny animal from classic cartoons and comics to today's graphic novels and webcomics.
Also, I'm planning a new series of Root Beers comics, starting on 17th September 2016, and I'm also planning a Root Beers Summer Special from 1st - 17th August 2016 (Originally, it would be on during the Olympics, but changed the date in order for a holiday to happen.).
Anyway, mustn't grumble so long. I have got this week's Midweek Root Beers to sort out.
Hoping you don't get affected by this year,
Al Welch

Root Beers #154: Anthrometamorphosis

First off, must I point off, to hear such sad news concerning Alan Young, known to fans of Mister Ed and Disney's DuckTales. He will be missed.

Next up, the main bit which features Maxtara (Maxtaro) in a very surreal situation. It's strange, I know. (God, I missed furry Maxtara...)

And finally, a quite a comeback from Miss Jones and Gothic Kitt from The Goodieski (A quite obscure group, on which Grahame Garden and Bill Oddie didn't write, not even with Tim Brooke-Taylor's biro), discussing whether Australia made it to Eurovision, without checking the news of 17th November 2015. Oh, they are silly...

Saturday, 14 May 2016

Root Beers #153: Pass the Seafood Sticks

It's only an hour to go until the 61st Eurovision Song Contest, so I'll just type up the description as fast as I can.
Everyone's excited for tonight. So, here's the Root Beers Euro Party.
With Morti Mouse as Conchita Wurst (2014 ESC winner, Austria)
Ally Bobcat as Johnny Logan (1980, 1987 ESC winner, Ireland)
Carol Woole as Corry Brokken (1957 ESC winner, Netherlands)
Fredrick Foxx as Alexander Rybak (2009 ESC winner, Norway)
with Nancius Bunnzie and Eurokatt as themselves.
Anyway, enjoy the contest and good luck, Joe and Jake!

Root Beers #152: MAY {(o)} Help?

Tired, tired, tired.
You see what happened when you mentioned the stains too loud in front of your loved one?

Masthead celebrates Michael Rosen's 70th birthday.

Root Beers #151: Keep Up with The Times

Hey, peeps. I feel all right. Just a bit of the sniffle. That's all.
Anyway, here's this week comic that acted like an advert for some kind of newspaper? Ah, whatever!
So, here it is. With a King who knows a thing or two about, yes you guessed it, humour!

Masthead says that on this day in 1939, NBC first started its television service from New York, with the opening of the New York’s World Fair.

Saturday, 23 April 2016

Root Beers #150: Gilbert, George and Sullivan

Now, there are two events occurred on 23rd April 2016. St. George's Day and the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. If you gentle fools don't know who Shakespeare is, look it up.
Also, I'm celebrating BBC Two's birthday with a mention at the top.
Plus, another shout-out to TomSka (for Mine Turtle) and Eddsworld (for that Sinister Guy. I don't think anyone did fan-art of him, before.

Saturday, 16 April 2016

Root Beers #149: mEnwIL n 1969

First off, I would like to congratulate Eddsworld on gaining one million subscribers on its YouTube channel.

And now, more nonsense using transL8it! to convert English into TxtLingo, and re-visiting Monty Python's Flying Circus with Spitting Image roots. See? Doesn't make sense, really...

This week's masthead commemoratives the passing of D.A.R.E. co-founder, Daryl Gates, six years ago, today.

Saturday, 9 April 2016

Root Beers #148: Wet One Minute, Please…

Ever felt that the recent wet weather was so bad? Well, this is the cartoon for you!
(Sorry, can't think of a better description.)

The masthead references that on this day, The Kamikaze arrives at Croydon Airport in London. It was the first Japanese-built aircraft to fly to Europe.

Saturday, 2 April 2016

Root Beers #147: Another Bland Ad

In hoping of an apology involving yesterday's April Fools comic, here's the sequel comic to the coffee advertisement comic of which I have done not six weeks ago, on this very website.

Masthead Reference - The Falkland Islands was invaded by the Argentinians, thus provoking Mrs Thatcher to send out the Army and the Navy to save the islands.
